HEAR THE WORD, DO THE WORD

How many sermons have you heard in your life? How many times have people spoken to you about the Bible and what God tells us in the Bible?

HEAR THE WORD, DO THE WORD

PSALM 1:1-3

v1 “Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers.”

v2 “But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.”

v3 “They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.”

How many sermons have you heard in your life? How many times have people spoken to you about the Bible and what God tells us in the Bible?

A lot of lives have been changed by someone who preached the gospel out of God’s word.

Some people listen to sermons but nothing good comes from it. Their lives are never changed, it goes in one ear and out the other.

THAT IS THE SEED falling on hard ground. It is good seed but the ground is so hard the only thing that happens will be the birds eating the seed. Nothing good comes from it. Perfectly good seed is wasted. A lot of people harden their hearts towards the Word of the Lord.

JUST LIKE A RAINMETER WITH A HOLE IN IT. It can rain and rain, but the rain-meter will never fill up and you will never be able to see just how much it has rained.

Many people are like this rain-meter, you can pour and pour into their lives, but everything falls through the hole. Others, don’t have a hole in and you can see exactly how much it has rained.

THE QUESTION IS:

What are you doing with the word you receive? Do you just hear it, and then go on with your life?

OR

Do you hear the word of God and allow it to change your life. Meaning, you are obedient and live according to God’s Word. Just like the rain-meter that keeps the water inside.

You can see when the Word of God changes someone’s life for the better.

CHANGE CAN BE SEEN IN THE LIVES OF PEOPLE WHO LISTEN AND DO GOD’S WORD

God compares people who do His work with a man who built his house on the rocks.

MATT 7:24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.

MATT 7:25 “Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.”

Then He says the following about people who listen but does nothing.

MATT 7:26 “But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand.”

MATT 7:27 “When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

May we also be like the wise man who builds his house on the rock, who not only hears God’s word but obeys as well.
